Read the University of Phoenix profile and the lessons behind a nontraditional path.

When the University of Phoenix invited me to reflect on my career journey, it reinforced something I’ve learned over time: some of the most valuable lessons come from nontraditional paths. My story is not linear. I grew up navigating abuse and later earned my doctorate while managing multiple brain surgeries. There were periods when the path forward was unclear, and progress came one decision at a time.

I share this not for the story itself, but for the perspective it offers. If even one student or professional realizes their starting point does not determine their outcome, then sharing it serves a purpose.

If you take only one thing away, start here:

  1. You do not need a perfect beginning. You need to break from the blocks that keep you stuck.

  2. Progress comes through persistence, reflection, and the discipline to keep moving forward when the path is not clear. Run your race.

  3. The value is not the story. The value is in the lessons it produces and how they are applied.

If you want the full context, read the University of Phoenix profile and write-up. For those guiding students or professionals though pivotal moments, these lessons are meant to be applied
